Happy New Year 2011

Hello folks, It has been awhile since my last post and what can I say - I've been busy. 2010 is coming to a end and it seems like it just started. The knife world is still moving a long and keeping at curtailing the draconian knife laws and social attitudes regarding knife carry.

My business has been steadily increasing despite the economy - and we're thankful of that. We are looking forward to the new offerings by the usual suspects - Benchmade, SOG, Cold Steel, Kershaw, Buck and others. Though, there doesn't seem to be as many as in previous years. The knife makers and manufacturers are not producing as much inventory as they usually do. I do not expect to be seeing of the new knifes until February - I haven't even received any 2011 catalogs from anyone yet.
Above picture is of:
Stilleto Folder - By Randy Williams of Williams Quality Knives
5" Spear Point 154CM Stainless Steel
Hard anlodized aluminum handle.
$250.00

I hope the end of 2010 and the begining of 2011 finds all of you well, without worry and full of hope.

It is a new year!

Well 2009 came and went - and 2010 looks to be moving just as fast. The big knife companies are finally getting their new offerings in stock and it seems to me to be a mixed bag. With the economy in the tank most knife makers are being somewhat conservative - not a lot of new knives and some refinement to the line they already know sells. Having said that, it is nice to see SOG bring back the Northwest Ranger fixed blade, minus the serrations. Benchmade dropped their "red" line and now offer the Rant Bowies in D2 tool steel both made in Oregon City OR.
Cold Steel has taken some old familiar lines, Voyagers, SRK, Recon Tanto etc. and now offers them in their proprietary steel VG-1 San Mai.

In the coming days I will be posting some of the new/some of the old knives that I hope will spark your interest. Some will be collector worthy but, some will be user friendly. Thanks for stopping by.

Michael Rader Tactical Short Sword

David here - Michael Rader's Tactical Short Sword is the blade I will be discussing today. I love this sword and it will be one that I actually want to keep for myself. Oh well that's business. Michael Rader is one of the hottest custom swordsmiths on the scene today. From his Rader Blade Works shop at the base of Mount Rainer in Washington State Michael crafts some of the most creative works of art, and function, I have come across. Inspired by history and infused with his own creativity his knives and swords are both timeless and respectful of the ancient smiths that have come before him.

Today's sword is a 20" Tactical Short Sword in the vein of a Japanese wakazashi. The blade is full tang San Mai construction. A clad blade made of a center core 1084 carbon steel and 5o outer layers of 15N20 carbon steel. With intergral bolster the 8" handle is a traditional single pin affair made of contemporary Black G-10. In keeping with the "tactical" theme this sword comes with a Kydex scabbard made by Brian Wagner of Okuden Knives.

SOG Knives

David here - in keeping with the SOG Knives theme the next knife I want to "put" out there is the SOG Arcitech A-01. The SOG Arcitech is a beautiful folder/tactical knife and one of the few SOG Knives that I do not have in my personal collection. I am not sure why I haven't put one in yet ( I prefer the jig bone over the carbon fiber.) I love this knife. It has a polished 3.5" San Mai stainless steel blade. It comes with titanium bolsters and liners - jig bone scales and an abalone thumb stud. The SOG Arcitech screams collect me collect me and I am sure that I will get one for my collection. So I put it out to you folks - what are your thoughts concerning this higher end offering from SOG Knives?
